Ajax Amsterdam defeated FC Twente Enschede 3-1 in title-deciding encounter to lift their 30th Eredivisie title at Amsterdam Arena on Sunday, May 15. Siem de Jong’s brace helped the Amsterdammers to a historic win over the defending Dutch champions
in front of their home crowd.
Frank de Boer, the Ajax manager, started with a 4-3-3 formation.

It was a capacity crowd at Amsterdam Arena with the electrifying crowd in full voice. The visiting side started the match aggressively and nearly scored an early goal; Ruiz picked up Janssen’s cross in the box, but Vermeer made an impressive stop in just
the second minute of the match.
The home side, then, started to control the game and held much of the possession in the centre of the pitch. In the 23rd minute, Van der Wiel followed his impressive run on the right flank with a perfect cross into the box from the right flank
after an impressive run. De Jong picked up the cross at the back post and made no mistake in volleying the ball past Mihaylov with his left foot to make the score-line read 1-0.
After conceding the opening goal, the Tukkers started to show their championship credentials and tried to take control of the game. However, their body language read nervousness all over. By dropping deep with their defence, they tried to soak-up the pressure
and counter attack the home side, but were unable to create any real scoring opportunities.
In the 35th minute, the Tukkers went close to finding the equaliser. Nacer Chadli played a one-two with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Luuk-de-Jong-c22956 on the left and whipped in a low cross across the face of the goal for Denny Landzaat. However, the lunging midfielder was unable
to connect with the ball at the far post and the chance went begging.
FC Twente passed a scare in the dying minutes of the first-half when Sulejmani’s powered shot from just outside the area flew over the bar. With Ajax leading 1-0, the referee blew his whistle to signal the end of the first half.
