On Eredivisie match-day 27, Ajax Amsterdam recorded an impressive 2-0 win over their arch-rivals http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/PSV-c40281 Eindhoven at Amsterdam Arena on Sunday, March 25.
The energetic atmosphere at Amsterdam Arena did little to boost a moderate beginning to the game, as both sides failed to create anything of note in the opening half-hour of play.
Although the Ajax remained the better of the two sides, bossing lion's share of possession, they struggled to pierce the well-organised Boeren back-line.
Christian Eriksen’s usually accurate set-piece deliveries failed to find their targets, forcing him to test his luck from range in the 32nd minute. However, his effort went well wide of the target.
Seven minutes later, Ismail Aissati had the opportunity to break the deadlock, but his effort lacked the power to beat the PSV goalkeeper, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Przemyslaw-Tyton-c30175.
In the 44th minute, Tyton made a decent save to deny http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jan-Vertonghen-c17814 from hitting the back of the net, as the two teams went in for the interval without troubling the score line.
The second-half was a much better affair as both sides had early sights at goal. Tim Matavz’s run was cut short by goalkeeper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Kenneth-Vermeer-c20618, while Eriksen’s curling effort flew wide of the target.
In the 56th minute, the Amsterdammers broke the deadlock through Aissati. The Dutch-Moroccan ace curled in a brilliant shot from 20 yards that found the top left corner of the net.
Seven minutes later, the home side doubled their advantage when Siem de Jong scored from the spot. Aissati was brought down in the penalty area by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Marcelo-c23554, and the referee did not hesitate in awarding the hosts’ a spot-kick. De Jong converted with ease to
make the score-line 2-0.
After going two goals down, the Eindhoven giants tried to crawl their way back into the match and mounted pressure on the Amsterdammers. However, they rarely managed to trouble the home side in the remaining action of the match.
Ajax sat deep inside their half and and did impressively well to keep the ball until the full time whistle.
All three points fired the Amsterdam giants to within one point at the summit of the table, while PSV hold on to the fourth spot and are five points behind the table-toppers, AZ Alkmaar.
