In round-29 of the Dutch top flight, De Graafschap recorded a stunning 3-0 victory over http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Utrecht-c39237 at Vijverberg Stadion on Thursday, April 12.
Despite heading into the game on the back of six consecutive Eredivisie loses, the Superboeren commenced proceedings in front of their home crowd brightly.
In the 10th minute, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Paul-c29347 Saeijs. Three minutes later, the Utreg goalkeeper, Erik Cummins, easily saved Yuri Rose’s volleyed effort, as the home side continued to mount pressure on the visitors’
back-line.
The Super Farmers managed to break the deadlock in the 22nd minute through Rydell Poepon. Saeijs’ cross from the left was dealt poorly by Cummins, allowing Poepen to finish the rebound from close range with ease.
Edouard Duplan had a decent opportunity to restore parity five minutes before the half-time break. However, the forward fired straight at the Superboeren goalkeeper, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Yves-de-Winter-c37744, who hardly had to move to deny his effort.
The home side resumed action in the second-half in the same fashion they started the opening half. However, they failed to create anything of note until the 62nd minute.
After taking a short corner, Gil Vermouth’s cross from the right flank found Michael de Leeuw unmarked at the far post, whose headed effort found the right corner of the net to make it 2-0.
Five minutes later, Vermouth’s effort was blocked by a defender, as the hosts continued to dominate proceedings. Moments later, Gregor Breinburg had a good opportunity to put the match to bed, but his close range effort sailed over the crossbar.
Two minutes before the full time whistle, the Super Farmers wrapped up an impressive win when De Leeuw scored his second of the night. Poepen and De Leeuw played a neat one-two inside the box before the latter coolly fired home.
All three points lifted De Graafschap above SBV Excelsior in the automatic relegation position into the promotion/relegation play-offs. With 15 points left to play for before the end of the ongoing 2011/12 season, they now have a bright chance of prolonging
their stay in the Dutch top tier.
FC Utrecht remain unmoved at the 13th spot on the table following the surprising loss, but their hopes of playing in Europe next term have now certainly diminished.
