d**k Advocaat’s side missed too many goalscoring opportunities after taking an early lead through Timothy Derijck, while http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fred-c14136 Rutten’s men converted two of their best chances to grab all three points at the end.
In the 14th round of the Dutch top flight football, PSV Eindhoven suffered a disappointing 1-2 defeat against Vitesse Arnhem at Philips Stadion on Sunday, November 25.
The Boeren commenced proceedings in front of their home crowd, and managed to grab the lead within the opening five minutes of play. A http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Timothy-Derijck-c35129 pounced on the loose ball inside
the penalty area to break the deadlock.
Moments later, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Luciano-c22574 Narsingh had a perfect opportunity to double his side’s advantage, but the talented winger fired his effort well wide of the target, much to the dismay of the PSV head coach, d**k Advocaat.
The missed opportunity cost the Boeren heavily, as the Arnhem outfit managed to restore parity in the 15th minute through http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jonathan-c18993 Reis. The Brazilian ace’s free-kick took a little deflection that completely wrong-footed the PSV goalkeeper, Boy
Waterman, and found the bottom right corner of the net.
Both sides created plenty of goalscoring chances in the remaining action of the opening half, but neither of the two sides managed to find the back of the net.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Georginio-Wijnaldum-c14629 combined well to create an opening, but the latter’s effort went well over the crossbar.
Derijck could have netted his second of the evening, but his headed effort on a Mertens free-kick went wide of the target.
Wilfried Bony, who remained quiet throughout the evening, had a decent opportunity to gift his side a lead, but the Ivorian ace missed to hit the target from close range.
Nonetheless, the missed opportunity did not cost the Arnhem outfit, as they did eventually manage to grab the lead in the 74th minute through Bony. A brilliant long ball from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Theo-Janssen-c34871 found Reis unmarked near the far post. The Brazilian attacker
headed the ball back for Bony, who beautifully slotted home from close range to make the score-line 1-2.
Advocaat replaced Derijck with Jurgen Locadia in the 79th minute, and the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Piet-Velthuizen-c30016, made a terrific save
to deny the technically gifted midfielder from netting the equaliser.
When the referee blew the final whistle, the score-line read 1-2 in favour of the Arnhem outfit.
Both sides played out an open game, but PSV remained the dominant force in front of the goal. However, they failed to convert their opportunities, which at the end was the difference between the two sides.
PSV remain unmoved at the summit of the table, while Vitesse occupies the third spot in the league standings.
