Feyenoord Rotterdam have started their 2011/12 Eredivisie campaign in style with a 2-0 victory over SBV Excelsior at Stadion Woudestein on Friday, August 5. In Ronald Koeman’s debut game in charge of the Rotterdam giants, his men performed exceptionally
on the field, showing their impressive attacking form.
Despite starting the match without http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Leroy-Fer-c22126 was a menace with each of his touch on the ball.
In the second minute, Cisse created an opening on the left before moving inside the box, but Excelsior goalkeeper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wesley-de-Ruiter-c36797 punched out his powered effort.
The early aggression shown by the visitors was short lived as much of the action was taking place in the centre of the pitch.
In the 24th minute, Leroy Fer ran on to a perfect Ron Vlaar’s pass before jinking past a couple of defenders, but Ruiter kept out his shot to keep the deadlock intact.
Jerson http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Cabral-c8232 had a perfect opportunity to give Feyenoord the lead in the 29th minute, when he rounded off Ruiter outside the box, but his left-footed shot from distance was a bit off the mark.
In the 39th minute, Fer found his way into the box following an impressive run, but the Kralingers gloves man once again came to rescue when he deflected away Fer’s close range effort.
At the half-time whistle, the score-line read 0-0 with the Rotterdam giants dominating much of the action in the opening 45 minutes.
The outfit from Excelsior came out better in the second-half and showed their aggressive intent. In the 48th minute, Feyenoord goalkeeper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Erwin-Mulder-c12875 kept out a Roland Alberg shot from the edge of the box.
However, the Stadiumclub regained their dominance over the home side on the field after a brief moment of pressure, with Fer once again attempting to break the deadlock but his effort just sailed over the crossbar.
Cisse then made an impressive run on the left before sending a cross into the box that was not cleared properly. The Kralingers defender Samuel Scheimann misjudged the cross and the attempted clearance header went straight to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Guyon-Fernandez-c15479, who made no
mistake volleying the ball from six yards out into the back of the net.
Near the hour mark, Scheimann went close to levelling the score-line with a free-kick, but his effort curled past the far post.
The Rotterdam giants doubled their lead through an own goal with 20 minutes to spare. Jerson Cabral made an impressive run down the right before curling a low cross into the box. Leen van Steensel got the last touch, turning it in to his own goal.
The referee soon blew his whistle to bring the proceedings to an end, with the score line reading 2-0 in favour of Feyenoord.
