Dutch Eredivisie title within reach – Ajax Amsterdam looking as favourites to be crowned champions
With only six points left to play in the 2010-11 Eredivisie season, it seems like that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/AFC-Ajax-c38228 Amsterdam are the favourites to emerge as Dutch champions at the end of the campaign.
Four weeks before, even the most optimistic of the Amsterdammers fans were not expecting that their beloved side stood a chance of lifting the Eredivisie title this term. However, four wins in a row mixed with a poor show from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/PSV-c40281 Eindhoven and FC Twente
Enschede at top have brought every ray of hope in the Amsterdammers fans that their side can become Dutch champions at the end of the season.
The Amsterdammers are in cruise control at the moment in the league. They are currently placed second in the league table, trailing the league leader http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Twente-c39233 Enschede by a solitary point. Frank de Boer, De Joden manager, is confident that his side will
lift the Eredivisie title at the end of the season.
After Martin Jol left the manager’s hot seat at the Amsterdam Arena on December 12, 2010, Boer did well to achieve superior results afterwards and lead his troops to emerge as a strong contender for the Eredivisie title. The Amsterdammers lost only two of
their 15 matches under the leadership of Boer and now looking confident to achieve their 30th Eredivisie title.
The Eredivisie giants are currently competing on two fronts, KNVB beker Cup and Eredivisie. Boer’s troops have already qualified in the final of the league cup, where they will play against the Tukkers at the De Kuip Stadion on Sunday, May 8.
With Boer’s troops staging exuberant performances in both of the competitions, the 40-year-old tactician will certainly be having selection headaches. The players need to be rested every now and then. A single injury to a key player can certainly be demoralizing
for the team.
The 40-year-old tactician was pleased with his troops’ performances in their European campaign this season. The Eredivisie giants impressed everyone with their good show in the UEFA Champions League and then in the Europa League as well.
Many would still argue about their early exit from the Europe’s primary club competition, but it was always on the cards after the group stage draws were made. With the likes of AC Milan and Real Madrid sharing the group, the Amsterdammers needed some miraculous
performances to advance to the next phase of the competition.
After their exit from the Champions League, Boer’s side played impressively in the Europe’s secondary club competition, progressing through to the last-16 stage. However, Spartak Moscow eliminated them in the round of 16 convincingly.
Boer has done wonders after taking over from Jol and his side is in a commanding position to win the double this season. Boer’s men will play their upcoming Eredivisie encounter against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/SC-Heerenveen-c40463 at the Abe Lenstra Stadion while the league leaders will
host http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Willem-II-c40945 Tilburg at the De Grolsch Veste on Sunday, May 1.
If both the sides secure all three points in their respective fixtures, then both the sides will face each other on the final day of the season for Eredivisie title deciding encounter. The encounter will be played at the Amsterdam Arena on Sunday, May 15.
The Amsterdammers will be the favourites to secure all three points in front of their home crowd and lift their 30th Eredivisie title. Everything would be rosy in Amsterdam, and even the most pessimistic of the Amsterdammers fans will expect their
beloved side to bring silverware at the end of the season.
