Dutch International 2013: Beatriz Corrales stuns Karin Schnaase to grab Women’s Singles title
Spain’s upcoming shuttler Beatriz Corrales surprised everyone as she grabbed Women’s Singles title after crushing her higher ranked German challenger Karin Schnaase in the final of Yonex Dutch International 2013 on Sunday, April 21, in Netherlands.
The impressive Beatriz, who was the sixth seed in Women’s Singles main round of Dutch Open, played to her maximum speed and remained successful in snatching the title from the favourite shuttler Karin who was the second seed in the championship.
Spanish shuttler was underdog in this match as she was playing against an in-form player. However, she played with greater level of precision and managed to outplay Karin in straight sets with a reasonable margin of 21-16 and 21-18 in just 38 minutes.
On the other hand, the higher ranked Karin failed to stretch her winning run in the final battle as she faced a severe treatment from her underdog Spanish challenger. She failed to raise her level of play at crucial stages and lost the battle with a decent total on the board.
It was a wonderful fight in the starting points when Beatriz showed attacking display of her craft in the arena.
The hard-to-learn variations in Beatriz’s shots assisted her to maintain her upper hand over her higher ranked opponent and she remained in complete command of rallies without facing any trouble.
Until the one-minute interval, the aggressive Beatriz was in a strong position as she did not let her higher ranked challenger to dictate the pace of the game.
Karin tried her best to play positive badminton but could not take charge of rallies and remained trailing in the ending half.
It was a smooth ride for the in-form Beatriz who did not face any considerable resistance from her rival and won the first game with a staggering 21-16 margin on the board.
In the following set, Karin raised her level of play and she did not let her challenger to dominate the pace of rallies this time. Until the one-minute interval, both ladies stayed close on the score board.
However, in the concluding part, Beatriz started to create pressure on her rival and managed to set up a small lead until the ending points.
Spanish lady remained confident in her play and did not commit any unforced error at this crucial stage that enabled her to wrap up the game with a close margin of 21-18.
