Dutch Junior International: Pannawit Thongnuam outplays Joo Ven Soong to secure Men’s Singles title
Thailand’s talented player Pannawit Thongnuam continued his giant killing performance on court and remained successful in winning Men’s Singles title after defeating Malaysia’s Joo Ven Soong in the final of Yonex Dutch Junior International 2013 in Netherlands,
on Sunday, March 3.
The ninth seeded Pannawit, who remained impressive in all of his matches in the tournament, continued surprising the crowd with his tremendous skills and remained successful in winning the final contest in a thrilling manner.
The lower ranked Pannawit played with impressive control and took the first game easily but had to put in extra effort to win the second game and ended up the battle in straight games with a reasonable margin of 21-15 and 22-20 in 37 minutes.
On the contrary, the top seeded Joo Ven could not play attacking badminton as he failed to stay positive in the opening set. He gave a good fight in the second game but failed to elevate his play in the ending points and eventually lost the match to his
lower ranked Thai challenger.
In the first game of this title match, both shuttlers were aggressive in the arena but it was Pannawit who played with remarkable precision and managed to stay ahead of his higher ranked challenger at the initial stage.
Joo Ven tried to match the speed of his challenger but failed to live up to expectations and eventually remained far behind until the one-minute break.
After the interval, Pannawit continued his dominating run on court without showing any mercy to his Malaysian rival at any stage. He sailed smoothly all the way and ended up the opening game with a smashing margin of 21-15.
The second game was absolutely thrilling in which Joo Ven also showed glimpses of his brilliance and did not allow his rival to take a clear lead until the end of opening half.
After the mid-game interval, both shuttlers continued playing in the similar way. However, it was Pannawit who dominated the pace and reached at 20-17 when Joo Ven increased his speed and made the score levelled at 20-20.
At this crucial stage, the lofty Pannawit controlled his nerves and played safe but fast badminton and eventually scored two consecutive points to finish the game with a close margin of 22-20 and won the title.
