Dutch Keizer-Van Iersel enter the Main Draw berth – Volleyball news
The home duo of Keizer-Van Iersel from Netherlands displayed good action during the pool-play of 2012 CEV Women’s Beach Volleyball European Championship Finals and quailed for the Main Draw.
The pool-play of the European Championship covered its run from May 30-31 and promoted the successful duos into the next stage of the tournament. Keizer-Van Iersel advanced to the Main Draw from Pool C. In order to move forward, the Dutch pair had to sideline
the competitors from Greece, Norway, and Switzerland. Using the home advantage, Dutch team successfully achieved 3-0 record and paved its way to the crucial Main Draw.
The home overpowered Norwegian pairing of Kongshavn and Treland in the first match of the tournament. The affair lasted for 39 minutes and completed its run in just two sets. Keizer and Van Iersel came up with better plan, which helped them achieve success
against the opponents.
Success in the opening match gave the necessary confidence to winning Dutch pair, which battled out another win against Greek opponents in the next encounter. The duo of Tsiartsiani and Arvaniti came into stride with the hosts in the second set. Comparatively,
it was a much better team than the Norwegians. The pair showed it power in the very first set of the match and held off home duo for 21-13 win.
It came as a shock for Dutch pair as Greek played really fast and quickly finished the set. However, the Keizer-Van Iersel grasped the game plan of opponents and formulized a better strategy in the next set.
With the help of better attack and defence, they controlled the operations of the game and broke the tempo of resilient rivals. Second set came successful for Netherlands (21-12) and the game score tied at 1-1. Dutch pair got its full form back in the third
set and swept the feet of visiting Greek ladies with spectacular performance. The home team scored 15-8 in the third set and settled for 2-1 victory in the match.
Keizer-Van Iersel returned to action on Thursday and collided with Swiss duo of Graessli and Goricanec in the third match. Charged-up Dutch pair played to its full potential and easily managed to edge out the visitors. Dutch team claimed the opening set
with fair margin of 10 points (21-11) and followed it up with 21-12 in the next set. Swiss team accepted defeat in 28 minutes, while Dutch pair moved to the Main Draw.
