Dutch Open 2012: Dicky Palyama ousts Mark Caljouw in Men’s Singles round-of-16 – Badminton news
Netherland’s experienced male player Dicky Palyama had to struggle hard to overpower his lower ranked compatriot Mark Caljouw in Men’s Singles round-of-16 at the Yonex Dutch Open 2012 at Almere, Netherlands, on Thursday, October 11.
The eighth seeded Palyama, who has been impressive in the whole tournament, stretched his winning run but not before employing all of his skills on court and ended up the contest in a tight margin.
Local shuttler was in good form in the first game and he won it with a decent margin but failed to maintain his focus on court in the second set. However, he found his rhythm back in the final game and ended up the contest in three sets with a decent margin.
On the other hand, the un-seeded Caljouw played with impressive speed and precision but failed to stretch his winning run against his higher ranked team-mate and lost to him but not before snatching a set.
In the first game, Palyama played with impressive speed but he could not dominate the pace of rallies as his opponent also created a good resistance on court and remained struggling to set up a reasonable lead until the break.
After the one-minute break, Palyama showed his impressive skills by taking the bird early and started to create the difference on score board. He managed to win the first set with a 21-18 score on the board.
In the second game, the lower ranked Caljouw changed his tactics and became incredibly aggressive from all areas of the court.
Palyama, on the other hand, failed to create any gap on score board and remained struggling until the one-minute break.
After the interval, Palyama employed powerful shots but failed to shake the defence of his rival and eventually lost the set with a big margin of 15-21.
In the deciding set, the eighth seeded Palyama played with impressive control and took over the charge of rallies in opening half and set up a huge lead on score board.
After the one-minute break, Palyama continued his staggering run against his lower ranked country-mate and won the set with a huge margin of 21-10.
Palyama emerged as victorious in this Men’s Singles pre-quarter-final battle in 38 minutes with a reasonable difference of 21-18, 15-21 and 21-10.
