Dutch Open GP: Ajay Jayaram proves his worth against Stilian Makarski in Men’s Singles second round
India’s emerging shuttler, Ajay Jayaram, have proved his mettle by playing remarkable badminton against Bulgaria’s Stilian Makarski in the Men’s Singles second round of the 2011 Dutch Open Grand Prix, in Netherlands, on Wednesday, October 12.
Jayaram has been delivering terrific performance for the last six months and have earned a respectable place at number 28 in the Men’s Singles world standings. He is the second seed of in the tournament and has reserved his place in the round-of-16.
The Indian played flawless game in the first game and showed no respect at all to his opponent. Makarski tried to get rid of the aggression of his higher ranked challenger but failed to match the pace of the rallies. Jayaram won the first game without facing
any trouble.
He continued his peerless performance and bagged the second set with a remarkable difference. The Indian took just 23 minutes to cross the second-round hurdle and powered his way into the next stage of the event.
Jayaram opened the first set in a dominating fashion as he took no time in setting up an impressive lead. His powerful smashes and hard to return net strokes earned him strong position in the first set and he won it by taking just 13 minutes with a big margin
of 21-14.
In the second game, Makarski played fast game in the opening rallies but failed to break the flow of his opponent. Jayaram remained focused in the game and pushed his rival in all areas of the court.
The power-play of the Indian, together with the fast pushes and semi-smashes, helped him in finishing up the second set in a striking way by an impressive margin of 21-12 in just 10 minutes.
Jayaram displayed phenomenal performance and won the battle with a 21-14 and 21-12 score by taking just 23 minutes of the court time.
In the round-of-16, Jayaram will be up against Belgium’s Yuhan Tan, who proved his worth against Uganda’s Edwin Ekiring in the second round of the tournament.
