Dutch Open Grand Prix: Hsueh Hsuan Yi overpowers Przemyslaw Wacha in the Men’s Singles quarter-final
Chinese Taipei’s Hsueh Hsuan Yi has reached in the Men’s Singles semi-final as he overpowered the higher ranked Przemyslaw Wacha of Poland in the quarter-final of the Dutch Open Grand Prix, at Almere, Netherlands, on Friday, October 14.
The World Number 40, Hsuan Yi, played attacking badminton in the whole match and emerged as the winner in 72 minutes against Wacha, who is placed at number 26 in the Men’s Singles world standings.
It was a three-set contest and both shuttlers delivered wonderful play of quality badminton. The Taipei shuttler lost the opening game with a narrow margin as he could not find a good flow. However, he came back to win the following set with the same narrow
margin. In the deciding game, he showed no mercy to the opponent and bagged it in a one-sided way with a big difference.
In the opening set, Wacha played better game by controlling the pace of the rallies. However, Hsuan Yi levelled the score by playing aggressive badminton. In the concluding phase of the first set, the Taipei shuttler lost his focus and played some negative
strokes and eventually lost the set with a margin of 19-21.
In the second set, Hsuan Yi lifted up his level of play by playing as attacking badminton. However, Wacha also played similar game and the score remained tie until the final points of the game. At this stage, the Taipei shuttler played wonderful game by
working well at the net and finished the game with a margin of 21-19.
It was a completely one-sided battle in the deciding set of this entertaining fight. Hsuan Yi set up an early lead by playing with precision and remained in wonderful control of the rallies. Wacha failed to maintain his momentum and played negative game.
Hsuan Yi remained focused and played positive game throughout the deciding set and won it with a striking difference of 21-14. The three-set fight finished in the favour of Hsuan Yi, who won it with a 19-21, 21-19 and 21-14 score on the board.
In the semi-final, Hsuan Yi will take on Rasmus Fladberg of Denmark, who defeated Valeriy Atrashchenkov of Ukraine in the quarter-final contest.
