Dutch Open Grand Prix: P.V. Sindhu stuns Porntip Buranaprasertsuk in the Women’s Singles semi-final
India’s emerging shuttler P.V. Sindhu continues her peerless run as she stunned the top seed Porntip Buranaprasertsuk of Thailand in the Women’s Singles semi-final of the 2011 Dutch Open Grand Prix, at Almere, Netherlands, on Saturday, October 15.
The un-seeded Sindhu proved her wonderful skills as she played with a great touch of precision. Her finishing strokes were remarkable as she spared no chance for her higher ranked opponent to survive in the match. The Indian took 50 minutes to overwhelm
the Thai shuttler in a wonderful three-set contest.
Sindhu won the first game by playing to her full potential and showed no mercy to her rival. However, she lost her focus in the following game and lost it against the Thai shuttler. In the final set of this superb fight, the Indian occupied the driving seat
and played terrific badminton and won it with a convincing score.
In the opening points, Sindhu played long rallies and employed all of her strokes to accommodate herself with the pace of the game. After a few opening rallies, the Indian started to continue her winning run by setting up a good lead in the first half.
After the break, Porntip tried to reduce the gap by playing with aggression but failed as the Indian was taking the bird early from all areas. Sindhu finished the opening game with a marvellous margin of 21-14 without facing any tough fight.
In the second set, it was the Thai lady who took over the pace of the game and started to push the Indian to all corners of the court. Sindhu committed a few mistakes which earned a wonderful advantage to her opponent, who missed no chance to take the game.
Sindhu lost the second set with a margin of 15-21.
In the decider, the Indian came in the court with an aggressive mood and she played terrific badminton in the whole set. She remained ahead of Porntip with a superb lead and maintained it until the end of the set. Sindhu won the set with a dominating margin
of 21-13.
The match ended up with a 21-14, 15-21 and 21-13 score on the board.
In the final, Sindhu will take on Jie Yao of Netherlands, who defeated Karina Jorgensen in the other semi-final showdown of the championship.
