Dutch Open Grand Prix: Yao Jie thrashes P.V Sindhu to lift Women’s Singles crown – Badminton news
Netherlands’ Yao Jie lives up to the expectations of the home fans as she has lifted Women’s Singles crown after thrashing India’s spirited shuttler, P.V. Sindhu in the final of the 2011 Yonex Dutch Open Grand Prix, at Almere, Netherlands, on Sunday, October
16.
The World Number 19, Yao played wonderful badminton and destroyed the hopes of Sindhu in the title match. The Dutch shuttler, who was the second seed in the Women’s Singles draw of the championship, showed no respect to the visitor and finished up the match
in straight games with a convincing margin by taking 47 minutes.
Both ladies played good badminton in the opening game but Yao dominated in the ending phase and won the first set. The second game was also close as both ladies were displaying wonderful show of attacking and positive badminton. However, the Dutch shuttler
played well and bagged the second set and won the match.
The opening set of the game was interesting when Sindhu matched the speed of her higher ranked opponent in the opening half. The Indian played really well and made the local crowd silent by executing some wonderful smashes.
However, the Dutch shuttler accelerated her speed and started to play with variations. Until the break, Yao managed to create a small gap against the Indian shuttler.
After the break, the Indian tried to find her flow but failed as her opponent was in complete control of the rallies. The Dutch lady made the crowd happy with her impressive strokes and won the opening game with a decent margin of 21-16.
In the second game, Sindhu tried to play positive and aggressive badminton from the starting points of the game. She managed to remain close against her higher ranked Dutch rival in the first half.
After the break, Yao changed her tactics and played with precision to put pressure on her Indian challenger. Sindhu failed to control the rallies and executed a few wrong strokes. Yao remained composed and focused in the game and won the second set with
a four-point difference of 21-17.
The Dutch lady won the final battle with a 21-16 and 21-17 score on the board.
