Dutch Women beat Azerbaijan 8-0 in EuroHockey Nations Championship in Monchengladbach, Germany
Triple strike from Kim Lammers and the skipper, Maartje Paumen, led Netherlands to a scintillating victory over their Azerbaijani counterparts as they defeated the relatively poor side, by 8-0 in their opening Pool A match of the GANT EuroHockey Nations
Championship (women), played at the Warsteiner Hockey Park in Monchengladbach, Germany on Saturday, August 20.
The Dutch Women dominated the entire course of action from the starting siren till the ending whistle by scoring a total of eight goals, a goal after every nine minute on average, while their opponents remained scoreless throughout the match. The Dutch Women
looked more dominant in the first thirty five minutes in which they scored five goals while the remaining three were scored in the second half. Kim Lammers and the skipper Maartje Paumen, having scored hat-tricks, were the star performers of Netherlands.
The game was played in a entertaining environment as where the Dutch athletes remained aggressive from the very start as they scored the opening goal in the 3rd minute of the first half when the skipper Maartje Paumen converted their first penalty
corner into the first goal. However, the Dutch ladies had to wait for almost 17 minutes to tick the score board for the second time but this time the penalty corner was converted to goal by Willemijn Bos in the 20th minute. The Dutch ladies took
only three minutes to make it 4-0 when they scored their next two goals in quick successions.
Their third was scored in the 22nd minute and the scorer was Kim Lammers who easily converted a penalty corner into their third goal before making it 4-0 in the 23rd minute when she again scored a beautiful field goal. Just three minutes
before the interval Paumen made her second strike in the 32nd minute to make it 5-0 at the interval.
The second half also belonged to the Dutch Women as they scored their sixth goal in the 51st minute but this time the contribution was from Ellen Hoog. Just two minutes after the sixth goal, the skipper, Maartje Paumen was once again in action
when she completed her hat-trick in the 53rd minute, once again with the help of a drag flick. Kim Lammers was striving for her hat-trick and she got the opportunity in the 58th minute when the Dutch ladies were awarded another penalty
corner. Kim Lammers converted it into her third goal and the eighth for Netherlands. The match was concluded at 8-0 to Netherlands.
The Dutch managed to put on a spectacular performance as they completely dominated Azerbaijan throughout the entire match.
