Dutch duo of Sanne Keizer, Marleen Van Iersel discloses aspiration for 2012 – Women Beach Volleyball
The pairing of Dutch female players, Sanne Keizer and Marleen Van Iersel, grabbed much attention when they paved their way to the top positions at the Shanghai Open in China and Myslowice Open in Poland during the 2011 season.
Later in the year, the twosome of Keizer and Van Iersel caught up in injuries and could not perform up to the mark. They ended up the season with a total of three medals, which included two gold medals and one bronze medal.
In the next run, they are ready to take their legacy into the next season. Quite recently, they visited the head quarters of Federation International de Volleyball (FIVB) in along with the delegation from the Netherlands Volleyball Association (Nevobo),
who put a bid get the right for hosting the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championship in 2015.
Van Iersel said that they have been practicing a lot these days. The duo did not appear at the last event of 2011 SWATCH FIVB World Tour in Phuket, Thailand and she also explained the reason for that in her comments.
Van Iersel told that both of them had injuries and wanted some timeout, in order to fully recover before the start of 2012 season. The regular season of beach volleyball is scheduled to start in April, 2012 so the duo will get enough time to get their real
form back and work out better performance in the upcoming tournaments.
They are currently playing in New Zealand as a part of the preparation for next SWATCH FIVB Tour, which is likely to be opened with Brasilia Open in Brazil. Moreover, the tandem has plans to go to Cyprus for more practice matches in January. The next season
is very important for them as they will also compete for the Olympic titles.
Speaking of the Olympic qualification, Keizer said, “It’s never definite. That’s what we’re aiming for. Indeed we won some tournaments and we know we can beat all the top teams, we did that once at least, so there is a lot of work to do over winter but I
think it’s possible. We’ll definitely go for medals, hopefully the gold one.”
The Dutch pairing has high hopes to do well in the year 2012. Let’s wait and see until the season starts and situation becomes evident.
