I want to study Dutch language and culture in the Netherlands, but, some people have said to me, "What are you going to do with a degree in that?" is this degree likely to have limited job options, or, do employers ususally just require any degree?

Also, can anyone tell me whether the dutch VWO is equal to the A-Levels in the UK ?

  1. Dutch VWO gives you direct acces to University. Depending on the main subjects you studied at the VWO you can choose a University Study. If you want to study physics at university, you should, for instance, at least have studied natuurkunde and wiskunde at the VWO.

If you would like to find a job later in the Netherlands, the career opportunities you have are very linked to your study. With A degree in Dutch language and literature you could become a teacher, or a journalist or doing a job at a company that is closely related to language.

In England, as far as I know, a University degree is more seen as a statement of your capability and it would give you more acces to jobs less related to your studies than in the Netherlands.
