Dutch junior boys thrash Malaysian Project 2013 squad by 5-1
The Dutch junior boys outclassed their Malaysian opponents by 5-1, in the first game of the two Test match series, played at the Stichtse Cricket en Hockey Club (SCHC) Stadium in Bilthoven, Utrecht, Netherlands on Thursday, July 14.
The Dutch juniors dominated the match from the start to the end, as they took an early lead in the 10th minute, a wonderful field goal from Rick Van De Kan, while in the 14th minute Leon Hanminga doubled the Dutch lead. However, the
Malaysian juniors succeeded in opening their account in the 35th minute, when the skipper, Mohamed Nor Faeez Ibrahim, converted a penalty-corner into a goal and reduced the Dutch lead.
In the second half, Netherlands stunned the Malaysian juniors by scoring two goals in a minute into the second half, when Roel Bovendert made the double strike in the 36th minute. Netherlands had to wait until the 63rd minute to make
another strike, the scorer was Diede van Puffelen.
Mirnawan Nawawi, the Project 2013 team manager, commented that the two early strikers by the Dutch juniors in the second half almost finished their chances to come back in the game.
“Holland played a fast attacking game with a lot of interchanges. They managed to break through our defence quite easily. Our players also made a lot of unforced errors, giving the Dutch the advantage. We also had four penalty corners, but the execution
on the slippery pitch made it difficult to get a good flick,” Mirnawan Nawawi, the manager of the Project 2013 team, stated after the after the defeat in the first match.
The Project 2013 squad is still to taste the first victory in the European tour as they were defeated in the three Test match series by 1-0 against Germany. In the first match they were whipped by German juniors by 5-1, while the other two matches ended
in a draw at 1-1 and 4-4.
The Malaysian junior will play their second test match against the Dutch Boys on July 16, at the seam venue before leaving to London, where they will be up against the English juniors for a series of four Test matches.
