Willem van Hanegem, the former Netherlands international, has expressed his opinion that the Flying Dutchman would perform better should they leave out Inter Milan’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wesley-Sneijder-c36799 at Euro 2012.
In addition, the 68-year-old has stressed that he would prefer to use the in-form Arsenal striker, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Robin-van-Persie-c31380, in an attacking midfield role.
Sneijder, who has been plying his trade at San Siro since the summer of 2009, has been one of the finest attacking midfielders in Europe. However, the 27-year-old failed to represent the Nerazzurri regularly in the 2011/12 season,
as he consistently sustained injuries throughout the campaign.
Meanwhile, Van Persie had a dream season at Emirates, netting a prolific 30 goals while setting up nine more in 37 English Premier League appearances. However, the 28-year-old played throughout the campaign in a lone striker’s
role.
Van Henegem has insisted that the Flying Dutchman will gain advantage if their head coach, Bert van Marwijk, instates the Gunners ace behind Schalke's Klass Jan Huntelaar.
“Klaas-Jan Huntelaar should start as our striker, with Robin van Persie in the position behind him. Sneijder has hardly played this season. We'd have a problem if he is available, but I'd still opt for Van Persie behind Huntelaar”,
Van Henegem was quoted as saying to the Dutch media.
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Feyenoord-c39258 Rotterdam star went on to heap praise on the Schalke striker and admitted that the prolific hit-man has developed brilliantly over the last couple of years.
“Huntelaar has developed pretty well as a footballer, but his biggest quality is scoring goals. Van Persie is more of an attacking midfielder who scores quite easily, too”, Van Henegem concluded.
Netherlands are drawn in the Group B along with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904. The World Cup 2010 runners-up will kick-off their Euro 2012 campaign against the Danish Dynamite on May 9 before meeting Die Mannschaft on June 13 while
they will battle against the Navigators in their final group game on June 17.
