Hi wonder if you can help.

My mom was born in holland, my father is south african and so am I.

The question I have can I get a dutch passport through my mom? She hasnt got dual nationality, she kept her dutch nationality. I know the Dutch arent really flexible with children borth to dutch mothers. Just wondered if the law had changed or it would be in the near future.

Any advice would be appreciated.

  1. In Europe, citizenship is inherited from the father (or mother). If the 'line' has been interrupted (as far as citizenship is concerned) you wouldn't have a right to a Dutch citizenship

Go to the nearest Dutch embassy or consulate with your passport and full name, date and place of birth of your child.

You can fill out a form of consent over there that will be forwarded to the appropriate Embassy or Consulate.

If you live in The Netherlands you can sign a form of consent at city hall ('gemeentehuis' of 'stadsdeelkantoor').

  2. There indeed have been a number of law changes pertaining to acquiring nationality in the Netherlands, but you can read the details simply here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dutch_natio... and http://www.minbuza.nl/en/welcome/DutchCi... (official foreign office site)

The if you require the process or more details it is advisable to contact the Immigration & Naturalisation Dept in NL directly.  http://www.ind.nl/nl/index.asp  There is an English version (not sure if you speak Dutch or not) but the Dutch pages contain a lot more info generally
