Dutch rider Jens Mouris joins Green Edge for Spring Classics – Cycling News
Team Green Edge has signed the Dutch cyclist Jens Mouris for the next season as he will join Stuart O’ Grady in the team. Mouris is not having a very good season and his best performance so far has been at Dutch National Championships as he finished second
behind Stef Clement in the time trials.
Jens is optimistic to pay back the confidence Bannan has shown in the him as he said, “My main ambition is to do well for the team in the spring classics, grand tours and try to be in the team that riders the team time trial world championships and may be
get a win myself.”
Mouris has raced for Netherlands during the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney as he participated in the 4 kilometre team pursuit with Robert Slippens, John den Braber and Wilco Zuijderwijk and finished at seventh position.
The 31-year-old was happy to sign with the Australian team as he mentioned that he loves the way Australian team approaches the sport and he decided to sign up with the team soon after receiving the offer. Jens further added that he is looking optimistic
about the future with his new team and he will learn a lot from the experienced Green Edge squad in the coming season.
Shayne Bannan also shared his thoughts on signing the cyclist as he mentioned that Jens
inclusion in the team will be perfect and team BMC was actually looking for someone like him to represent the team in the Sprint Classics as he said, “When recruiting riders to protect our leaders it’s a great advantage to have a guy
as big as Jens that also knows how to hold and handle his bike on the tricky roads of the big cobblestoned classics.”
After Pieter Weening and Sebastian Langeveld, Mourns is the third Dutchman to join the team Green Edge that has announced to have 75 percent Australian riders in the coming season and is also looking ahead to become the first Australian team with the UCI
Pro Tour Licence. Bannan has confirmed that they have already started the process and are in discussions with the UCI.
