Dutch women defeats Germany by 2-1 in 2011 Rabo FIH Champions Trophy
The Dutch women defeated their German counterparts by 2-1 on the second day of the 2011 Rabo FIH Women’s Champions Trophy, which is being played at the Wegner Stadium, in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
The Dutch team maintained their unbeaten record against the Germans in the ongoing Champions Trophy quite impressively. With this victory the Dutch women have now captured the top spot on points' table in pool B with six points and one game remaining against
New Zealand. The Dutch women started the event as the one of the favourites.
The match was pretty entertaining from the start to the end and was played in a very tight mode as all the three goals were scored in the first half, while the second half remained goal-less. Both teams fought very a hard battle for the victory, but finally
it was the hosts, Netherlands, who managed to clinch the all important victory to put them on top of the points' table.
The match started in a sensational and thrilling fashion as all of the goals were scored in the first half while the first twenty minutes were even more electrifying.
The Dutch women found the early lead with just 25 seconds into the start of the play, when Carlijn Welten displayed wonderful dribbling skills and beautiful stick work to enter into the German circle and made a splendid cross-shot on the target which was
found by Julia Muller, one of the German defenders, who deflected the ball into her own goal. So, the Dutch women were a goal ahead in just first minute of the first half.
The German women did not take too long to equalise the score and in the 10th minute Natascha Keller, the seasoned striker, made the full utilisation of the fault committed by the Dutch defence-line and scored the first goal for her team.
The Dutch team was even more clever than the Germans and made their second strike of the match minutes after the equaliser, when Kim Lammers scored the decider of the match by a powerful strike, while the German goal-keeper remained a mere spectator on the
shot. The remaining part of the first half along with the entire second half remained score-less in spite of some great chances by both the teams that resulted in vain. The match ended at 2-1 to Netherlands.
