Dutchman Joost Luiten on course to a maiden victory in Iskandar Johor Open: Live leaderboard
The rain-shortened Iskandar Johor Open has now moved to the final round as the match was reduced to 54-holes after consecutive heavy downpours throughout the weekend. Dutchman Joost Luiten, the first round leader at the scenic Horizon Hills Golf and Country
Club, is currently leading the event, heading for what could be his maiden victory on the European Tour.
Earlier on Saturday, November 19, the course was rendered unplayable after heavy downpours all through the day. Tournament director José-Maria Zamora said,
“The course became unplayable after the heavy rainfall we received this afternoon, with standing water on many of the fairways. With that in mind, we had no choice but to suspend play for the day and, due to the disruptions we have already suffered, we have
also taken the decision to reduce the tournament to 54 holes.” he added. “We are confident the course will be ready for the resumption of the third and final round at 7.20am on Sunday morning.”
Second round leader Daniel Chopra, also in search for his first victory on the European Tour even after playing on the tour for a whooping 15 years, has now dropped to an outright second and is still in contention for the top slot along with Luiten.
Padraig Harrington, the two-time major winner, who had been in contention for the top slot since day one, has now dropped to a joint fourth after his third round of 69. He pulled in rounds of 64 and 67 on the opening days and is currently experiencing a
rare resurgence in form at the end of the season. He is tied for the third spot alongside James Morrison of England and Rhys Davies of Wales.
Further down the leaderboard, Frenchman Gregory Bourdy is poised at outright sixth position while Soren Kjeldsen is poised at outright seventh for the moment. Five players are tied for the eight position including 2010 Open Championship winner Louis Oosthuizen,
Swede Fredrik Andersson Hed, Australians Darren Beck and Marcus Fraser and Spaniard Jose Manuel Lara.
Some 72 players were able to make the cut in the latest European Tour event scheduled in Malaysia. The halfway cut was placed at one-under.
