  1. Yes, depending on where you bought it, you would either receive the camcorder when you got on board or after the ship was at sea. After that, it's yours to do whatever you wish.

  2. Yes you can, but don't do it.  Buy your stuff here in the states where you have a warranty and can return the item if it goes bad.  The stuff they sell in Mexico is way over priced even if duty is removed.  The best choice is go to Target and get the $99  Aiptek MPVR+ digital camcorder that's on sale this week, and learn how to use it before going on a cruise.  Price is good August 24-30, 2008 at Target. Electronics are very expensive in Mexico and Caribbean regardless of duty.  If you want a more expensive camcorder buy it from Costco or Sam's Club where you can return it a year later and still get your money back.  If you buy the item in Hong Kong it doesn't come with a warranty.  Only stuff bought in USA have warranties.. and the serial number on the camcorder must be an American serial number (even if it was originally manufactured overseas) to have a valid warranty.  It's too dangerous to buy most electronics overseas, especially when you have Costco or Sam's Club that will stand behind the purchase.  Sam's tends to be a little cheaper than Costco for things I have purchased.

  3. Yes, of course you can.  You can start using it as soon as you get out of the shop, if you want. As long as you keep your receipt, just in case the customs people at your disembarkation port want proof of the cost. Different countries have different rules on the amount of duty free allowance before you pay tax.

  4. yes, it sounds like you could use it.

    best wishes
