With the free trade agreement why are items that are purchased in U.S. and shipped to Canada still being charged duty? I thought only PST and GST were to be charged?

  1. The situation with the Free Trade thing is totally stupid and you have to pay duty on some things. Mainly the stuff they don't want you buying from the U.S. because it would hurt the

industry here. (Can you say Quebec shoe industry?? that is why are shoes are so expensive compared to the states and why you can't have them shipped up here or else you pay so much duty on them it is not worth) I tried to order some business cards from this really nice place in the states and was told that under free trade they couldn't send me business cards. They could send me all kinds of envelopes and other stationary but not business cards. I guess Quebec makes business cards too.

  2. The agreement doesn't cover every item, only items manufactured in the US. So if something is imported from China into the US and you purchase it in the US, you have to pay duty.
