  1. hi you

you cant check this out on the customs and excise web site as the make and model have a lot to do it with

  2. U have to pay tax because if you are pulled over by customs, they will take the car off you until you pay the tax! Happened me when i took a english car over & didnt pay tax...its a bummer!

im after been looking for the duty tax calculator online but cant find the site,it allows you put in all the details in of the car & then tells you how much duty tax you have to pay

  3. Ireland is IN the EU, dear.

Phone your local Motor Tax office and ask them. Or google their website.

  4. Any EU car won't pay VAT, only VRT. You can stay with an European car here up to 6 months, like in any other country. The reason why it's easier for the Guards to catch you here is because this is obviously an island. So, you'd have to show your ferry ticket back "home" or the car can be impounded until you register it here. To know how much VRT costs, go to www.ros.ie and follow the VRT links

  5. Hiya, go to www.vrt.ie

We imported a van from germany last year, all the details are on this site. There's a lot of form filling and the import tax you have to pay can vary depending on how popular that particular model is, what the market price in Ireland is and the fuel emmisions.

It's pretty straight forward though. There are loopholes around paying tax, if you can be bothered. If you've owned the vehicle for over six months before you import it, you don't have to pay import tax, but you then can't sell it on for a further 6 months - if you do, you'll become liable for the tax. Try www.boards.ie for more info on this.

  6. you have to pay tax

  7. If the car is to be used in Ireland permanently (and not just on a visit or holiday) you are obliged to re-register it within a week of entry.  There will be duty to be paid, based on the age of the car.  A long time ago, we were extremely lawful and re-registered our car  after a week in November  ....  but if we had kept schtum and did it in January instead, it would have cost a lot less.  In the new year, the car was classified as a year older.  The difference would have kept us in petrol for months too.
