  1. If you have a mini dv (cassette) camcorder….

Your dv camcorder needs a firewire connection (ieee 1394) in order to download video, your PC probably did not come with a firewire port, so you will have to buy one and install it, since most computers (except possibly brand new) don't come with a firewire port, your camcorder did not come with a firewire cord so you have to purchase a cord too. Your camcorder did come with a USB cord and that is used for downloading stills from your camcorder. Make sure your camera is in playback mode.

  2. The Samsung SC-D372 is a miniDV tape based camcorder.

ALL miniDV tape based camcorders connect to your computer's firewire400 (IEEE1394a, i.Link, DV - all the same thing) port with a firewire cable - connected to the camcorder's DV port.

If your computer does not have a firewire port, they are typically cheap... and easy to install if your computer has an available PCI (tower/desktop) or PCMCIA slot. If your computer has an Express slot, the cards are more expensive.

The camcorder manufacturers typically do not include a firewire cable in the box - they are cheap, too.

Apple Macintosh computers have had firewire ports standard for almost 10 years. (There is one exception - the new Mac Air.)

Windows: Connect the camcorder via firewire to the computer. Put camcorder in Play mode, Launch MovieMaker and "Capture" the video.

Macintosh: Connect the camcorder via firewire to the computer. Put camcorder in Play mode, Launch iMovieHD and "Import" the video.
