Dvd audio is out of sync?

i recently bought a film called White Men Can't Jump and in parts the audio is out of sync with the visual. How could this have happened? is it the player?

it is just an older movie...national lampoons christmas vacation is the same way it was made in 1989 it is just because of the older film quality
