Dvd burning problems with the dvd writer

Question

Just recently, when burning a movie (image file) my dvd writer began making an unusual noise and at the same time it appeared to stall during the process. The burn movie had faults on some of it's contents.
On a second attempt the same situation occurred, except that after a few seconds in the burning process it just stalled completely and that was it!!
My computer is an HP Media Center Edition and I use Nero 7 ultra.
