Question:

Dvd player options with a flat panel tv mounted on the wall?

I've been looking into 32" flat panel televisions to mount on my bedroom wall -- yet all the models I really like don't have the built-in dvd players!

What are my other options as far as dvd players go? I don't want to have to put a table or tv bench under the tv just to set a dvd player on it. A friend of mine mentioned putting a dvd player behind the tv? Is that possible?

Thanks!

  1. You don't want a DVD built into a TV. What happens when the DVD dies? Better to have a separate player and put it in a drawer or closet and run a wire to the input of the TV. A 10-20 ft (3-6 m) cable isn't impossible (although depending on what type of connection you may need more than one cable for video and audio), and small players are available that can be easily hidden, so you have a fair amount of flexibility.

The best type of DVD player would be an upconverting model with an HDMI output. You only need a single HDMI cable to carry both video and multichannel audio. Try Monoprice.com for inexpensive HDMI cables.
