Dvd player problem. Our dvd player plays half of the dvd and then skips back to near the beginning

Our dvd player plays half of the dvd and then skips back to near the beginning ....and is sometimes hesitating around the middle of the dvd.....if we get it past that spot, it plays fine. serial number: 6205479Thanks,Marian
