I had baught a dvd recorder last year and now am hearing that with the conversion threw cable my dvd recorder will no longer work the way its supposed to. I want to watch my show while recording a cartoon on another cannel but Ive heard without a tuner it will only let you record the channel you are watching. Is this true? Only a dvd recorder with a tuner built in will record on different channels while watching another show? Also does it make a difference that I have cable tv and will not need a converter box for my tv since I have the cable box?

  1. You will not need a converter box for your cable for you to watch TV on you TV. It is up to the cable companies to take care of their customers. They will make sure your TV will still work and you will not notice any difference after the conversion.

If your DVD recorder does not have a digital tuner then you have options. You can use it to record shows while you are gone. You can set it up to an aux output on you cable box also. I am not sure how you are using it right now. If you are using it to record shows while you are watching a channel on cable and recording off the air then you still can with a converter box. Converter boxes are around $60 and you can get a gov't coupon for $40 off the purchase of a new one. Then just hook up your converter box between your DVD recorder an the antenna and it will still work. I hope this helps, Good Luck!

  2. Okay here the jist of what's happening with the TV. If you pay for TV/Satellite, that's all that's relevant. All that Tivo, turner, cable box blah, blah will work. The only thing that gets affected is "rabbit ears" TV. Which in cases like hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, than you should have the converter for your antennae TV's, or buy a new one that will have them built in...

So as long as you pay for television service from a provider than you will not be effect and all your equipment will work just fine. :-)
