Dvd recorders and normal dvd players, help?

i have a dvd recorder and it does a ood job of recording the dvds maintaining a good picture and all, but the dvds with recorded things on it do not work on a normal dvd player. basically, the only dvd player that can play and read the burned dvd is the dvd recorder. the same dvd with the recording on it can't be played on a normal dvd player only the recorder. is there a model out there that burns the recording in a way that allows you to play it on normal dvd player? i wanna record the olympics, some parts and play it on a normal dvd player, because what if the 1 dvd recorder got destroyed, i do not wanna play burnt dvds exclusively to the recorder, they made their own little monopoly witha dvd recorder.

btw jamaica is destroying, conquering everyone else in track and field.
