Dwane Casey - The strongest candidate to be hired as Raptors new head coach - NBA Special Report
The Dallas Mavericks’ defence geek, Dwane Casey, has been once again hot in the news as a coach due to his tremendous master-mind planning to put a stop to the unbeatable Miami Heat. The recent championship has taken Casey to greater
heights overnight. His efficient planning helped reserve LeBron James considerably. Other players such as Kobe Bryant also had a hard time facing the Mavericks with their new strategies.
Dwane Casey is in the strongest position to succeed as the next head coach of the Toronto Raptors.
Raptors short listed their options until left with Casey, last Tuesday. Casey was in town for his second interview with the franchise general manager, Bryan Colangelo. Toronto Raptors’ other finalists include Mike Woodson, Kelvin
Sampson and Lawrence Frank.
Casey had been a nominee for coaching Raptors back in 2003 as well. It seems he will finally lay hands on the office.
The Raptors wished to announce Casey hired before the NBA drafts later this week. However, the idea does not seem to be taking any real form as Dwane Casey is expected to be interviewed this week with the Detroit Pistons as well.
The word around is that Detroit Pistons have all eyes set on Boston Celtics’ assistant coach Lawrence Frank and look at Casey just as another option, nothing more. The Detroit team front desk announced that Frank “blew the Pistons
away” in his interview.
Dwane Casey and Frank Lawrence also made it as the finalists for both Houston Rockets and Golden State Warriors; both were unable to succeed in scoring the post.
Casey has served as head coach once before with the Minnesota Timberwolves. He was fired soon for not being able to train and guide his team to the mark though. The team had lost more often than winning. Before the Timberwolves,
Casey was with the Seattle Supersonic for 11 years.
According to Dallas Morning News, Mavericks were willing to lose Dwane Casey. This was confirmed by the Mavericks head coach, Rick Carlisle, when he said he was “probably going to lose Dwane to Toronto.”
Casey, if appointed head coach as expected, definitely faces a challenge here with some new talents at Toronto in the form of DeMar DeRozan, Ed Davis, and Jerryd Bayless along with whomever the team takes in as their No. 5 pick
in the upcoming drafts. Still, the Raptors do have potential as well as a dormant future and with a reasonably smart and hard working coach – who has a decent playoff career record of 46 wins against 32 loses as assistant head coach - the Raptors may speed
up their ascent to reach the top.
The Toronto Raptors ended near to the bottom of the league in defence. The defence maniac, Casey, can help the Raptors to raise their stats. Casey is, thus, right now the best option for the Raptors. His defence strategies did,
after all, help the Mavericks over throw Miami Heat. His appearances in the 1995-96 Finals with the Supersonic and with the Mavericks this last season prove he is capable of much more.
To sum it up, Casey can turn out to be a positive boost of motivational energy for the Toronto Raptors and hence a great improvement in the Raptors’ rankings.
