I have a 10 gal. tank now with only 1 fish a "Dwarf" Powder Blue Gourami. I was wondering if I could add maybe 3 or 4 Cardinal Tetras.

Would this be too crowded? Are they compatible?

If not what other small colorful fish could I add?

~Thanks in advance.~ (-_-)

  1. As mentioned, 6 + cardinals (2") would be best, and your tanks too small for that many.

Neons (about 1.5") would be better, and 6 would probably suitable for your tank, even with the gourami.  It would be pushing it, but with the aeration and filtration systems available now, should be no problem.  Regardless, make sure you do weekly 25% water changes and cleaning.

  2. Adding 6 would be preferred. This would put you at your limit for fish though. Cardinal tetras feel better with more of their own kind.

    I hope this helps!

    Good Luck!

EDIT: What you have heard about cardinals is true. This is because of generations of inbreeding has severely effected their quality.

  3. It should be fine dwarf gourami a pretty good with other tropical fish.

  4. I asked a very similar question a few weeks back, and everyone thought it was ok to have a school of 6 or 7 little tetras.  Just make sure there are lots of hiding spots.  It is preferred that they have live plants, and the live plants really bring out these guys' colors.
