Dwarf Hamsters Leg?

Question

I own a 1 1/2 yr old dwarf hamster. Recently I noticed a large lump on its back right leg. The doctor suggested to wait and see if it gets better, but Im highly doubting this. Oddly with this lump my hamster still jumps around at the bottom of its cage almost as though its not there. Hes a little less active though overall and Ive caught him sleeping more. Is this a common problem in dwarf hamsters? And what is it suggested I do? (I have a vet apt scheduled in a couple days but I dont know if they can do much considering a hamster rarely makes it through surgery-if that ends up being needed) Please let me know the possible problems in dwarf hamsters this could be so I can help my hamster out!!!
