hi, i recently tried to raise a wild baby cottontail and everything was going fine he was less than a week old but last night he somehow managed to climb under his bedding and trapped himself under the heating pad and i was asleep and by the time i found him it was too late....i panicked and rush to a pet store and bought a DWARF LIONHEAD, 9 weeks old and fur color combinations resemble that of a lion....im wondering exactly what breed of lionhead he is and will he grow those really long hanging ears that resemble a bloodhound? i hope so cuz i think its really cute...he appears to already have a somewhat developed "lion main" around his head and the bottoms of his hind feet have extra fur which i think is cool....also i asked for a female but they said it was too soon to tell.....do i just have to wait to find this out?

  1. hello there

ask the pet shop if they know the rabbit has another rabbit mixed on its blood.you may want to hope it has a lop rabbit in its genes in order to achieve that lop ears you want.typically, lionheads doesn't have lop ears unless its a mix

a rabbit can easily be known of the gender as early as three weeks old.though it is better off if you chack it at around 8 weeks old to be more sure.the older, the easier.

here is the site for determining the s*x:

    have a nice day!

  2. Lionheads do not have lop ears. His ears will not droop down. At 9 weeks old a rabbit can be sexed to determine if it is a buck(male) or a doe(female).

Hopefully you cleaned the cage well before you placed your new rabbit in it.Wild rabbits can carry diseases that can kill a domestic rabbit rather quickly.

Why did you have a heating pad in with a young rabbit? if they have fur they do not need extra heat.

Lionheads are a breed unto themselves. Since it is from a pet store it most likely is not purebred.Lionhead are called that because of the mane of fur around the neck area and the skirt near the tail. They come in manyvarietiess(colors).

Please do some more research on rabbits and their care. You seem to know little about the care of them.

  3. see this website

  4. Well, if he is a lionhead then he is a lionhead. There are no other kinds of breed of lionhead. Some are just more fluffy then others. He won't just all of a sudden start sprouting long ears. These breeds are called 'Lop eared' rabbits and are a different breed.

I think you don't know too much about rabbit breeds lol :]

  5. A baby bunny died.. and you went and bought a new one!? What?! that's kind of crazy.

  6. I have 2 lionheads and they are sorta funny lookin'.  They will have that weird "main" around their butts.  What you have is a double-mained lionhead.  There are also single-mained ones, but they are hard to find.  Lop ears are mini lops, holland lops, and so on.  They usually have "lop" in the name.  Your bunny won't get them.

9 weeks is acually longer than when I s*x my rabbit. (I also breed mine).  If you know what you are lookin' for, you can tell.  Just an FYI, people like me who have been breeding and around baby rabbits can tell by 10 days of age!  Again it maybe harder for some people to tell.

  7. 9 weeks is a little to early to know.

Lionhead is a breed itself. So when you ask "im wondering exactly what breed of lionhead he is and will he grow those really long hanging ears that resemble a bloodhound?" if you look up a lionhead on google, he is going to look the same. And if he has floppy ears, its a mix. And their ears to not get THAT big.
