Dwarf hamsters breeding with house mice?

Well, once, all 5 of my hamsters escaped at once...four of them were found, but the last one was never even seen. It's really sad, but our apartment has mice running around & i was wondering if hamsters and mice could interbreed with eachother. What do you guys think?

  1. Hamsters and mice cannot interbreed. They are just too different genetically.

  2. Hamsters and mice are not the same species or even the same genus--from a genetic standpoint they are not close relatives.  Horses and donkeys are close relatives, and they can interbreed (you get mules); but this is more like trying to breed a horse to a cow.  They have sort-of the same overall shape and many of the same habits if you don't look very closely, but they very different genetically.

  3. Nope, not possible.

  4. No they can't interbreed and will probably fight.

  5. They could, but I don't know if they would. Sorry about your dwarf hamster, I have one too and I woul be SOOOOOOO sad if he got lost!=(

  6. well maybe if they were small enough
