Dwayne Bravo ruled out of remainder of the ICC World Cup 2011
West Indies all-rounder, Dwayne Bravo has been ruled out of the remainder of ongoing World Cup after injuring his left knee in Thursday’s tournament opener against South Africa at the Feroz Shah Kotla stadium in New Delhi.
The veteran of 110 One Day Internationals, who played a quick knock of 40 runs against Proteas, picked up the injury on Thursday while bowling and left the field immediately. Initially he was supposed to miss the ensuing games of the league stage but scans
revealed that the 27-year-old had strained his anterior cruciate ligament and torn his left knee cartilage.
The West Indies coach said that all-rounder’s injury is a massive blow for the side already struggling for form.
“This is a blow for us. Dwayne is our vice-captain and one of the key members of our team,” the Windies coach said. “He has been showing good form with the bat and batted well against South Africa. He is also a livewire in the field and a reliable bowler.
We wish him a speedy recovery and hope he gets back on the field soon.”
Bravo is now the third causality for West Indies after wicketkeeper Carlton Baugh and opening batsman Adrian Barath, who were earlier declared unfit for the six-week long tournament just a few days before the mega cricketing event started in Dhaka. Devon
Thomas and Kirk Edwards were called in for the injured players.
The West Indies coach said that no replacement has yet been decided for the injured all-rounder.
“We have not decided on the replacement as yet,” said the coach. “Discussions are going on behind the scenes. It’s going to take some time before we reach any conclusion.”
Fast bowler, Tino best - who has 14 Tests and 12 One Day Internationals under his belt - is likely to replace injured Bravo in the squad.
However, the 29-year-old Barbados pacer is facing disciplinary charges as he was banned from playing against England Lions following an altercation with coaching staff during a training session.
The former World Champions will square off their World Cup campaign by playing Netherlands in New Delhi this Monday.
