West Indies' vice captain, Dwayne Bravo, feels a victory in the opening One Day International of the five-match series commencing at Sabina Park, Kingston, on Thursday, will set a nice tone for a series win.
"If we can start off the series with a win, chances are we're going to win the series. That's our biggest challenge as a team," Bravo was quoted as saying by the Caribbean Media Corporation (CMC), ahead of the series opener on Thursday.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 squad give them a faint glimmer of hope of ending the woeful
run.
The men from Caribbean recently crushed the Blackcaps in a two-match T20 series at Lauderhill, Florida, which gives them a head-start ahead of the one-day encounters against the Kiwis, whom they trail by one point on the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 ODI rankings.
However, Bravo did not rate the hosts favourites. "I don't think we are favourites. New Zealand have a good team. The two sides are ranked one away from each other so we can anticipate a good series," said the Trinidadian.
The 28-year-old Trinidad all-rounder, who has so far played 124 One Day Internationals for West Indies, admitted that lack of consistency has been their major problem of late. However, he was hopeful the side would overcome the weakness in the upcoming series
against a New Zealand side without regular skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/LRPL-Taylor-c1849, for the first couple of matches at least.
"Our aim is consistency. Most times in series we start off on the losing end and then play catch-up," said the hard-hitting middle-order batsman.
"That's something we're trying to work on and hopefully we want to start from this series where we start off with a win and start off well," he added further.
The ODI series, which kicks off in Jamaica today, will run till July 16. The two outfits are scheduled to play two Tests as well after the 5 ODIs.
