Dwayne Roloson stops all as Tampa Bay Lightning shutout Winnipeg Jets 1-0 -NHL Match Update
Tampa Bay veteran goalie, Dwayne Roloson, earned his second shutout of the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season by blocking all 28 shots taken on his net by the Winnipeg as the Lightning shutout the Jets, 1-0, Saturday night at the St. Pete
Times Forum in Tampa, Florida, United States.
Coming out a huge, 9-8, high scoring win over the Philadelphia Flyers, Winnipeg failed to score a single one past Roloson who had his eyes set on every puck that came near him.
"He really battled," Lecavalier said of Roloson. "Made a lot of huge saves. Overall as a team, we played a solid game". While coach Guy Boucher said he was not surprised at all since he knew Roloson would bounce back eventually, later if not now just like
last season.
Both teams gave a single penalty during the first period, which they respectively managed to kill off.
Tampa Bay Lightning captain, Vincent Lecavalier, scored his fifth of the season and the game’s only goal with 40 seconds left to play in the second period during a late power play opportunity given by Winnipeg’s Mark Stuart, who was penalised for holding
at the 18:54 mark.
"I think that we recognize that we're not going to have the ability to score nine every night", Winnipeg Jets coach, Claude Noel, said. "I thought we played hard. I thought Pavelec was outstanding. I thought he was great. I thought he rebounded real well
in the game".
Winning three straight in a row, the Tampa Bay Lightning were hoping to continue their streak but faced a, 5-3, loss against the Nashville Predators earlier on Thursday, but eventually bounced back with their shutout victory over the Winnipeg Jets.
Winnipeg still has a long road ahead of them but having won only three matchups up until now since the season kicked off, the Jets will have to focus on winning more contests in the upcoming days in order to improve their record and move up from the 14 number
spot in the Eastern Conference.
Winnipeg plays its last contest of October on Florida Panthers on Monday.
