Dwayne Roloson’s success with Tampa Bay Lightning at a staggering age of 41 - NHL
It is truly amazing and definitely shocking to see Tampa Bay Lightning’s goal keeper, Dwayne Roloson, exhibit impressive performances at a staggering age of 41!
Roloson’s former teammate, Matt Moulson, who played alongside him with the New York Islanders, knows the 41-year-old and his road to success quite well. Though, he admits that there are still some things that he might not know.
Nevertheless, all he has to say about Dwayne Roloson is that he is one of the best talented players he has seen and is still displaying game-winning performances despite being at such an old age.
"Maybe he's just like a fine wine", Moulson said. "He just gets better with age. Or something like that".
Roloson has spent abundant time in the National Hockey League (NHL) and he seems to have learnt everything about the league. This is his 14th season in NHL and he has developed himself into one of the best in the sport with the experience he has gained.
"He's been around the game for a long time", said Moulson. "It helps a lot when you've been through a lot of situations, which he has".
He joined NHL at a very young age, as a 13-year-old in 1996 and by 2006, he was one of the main players leading Edmonton Oilers in the Stanley Cup Finals.
Unfortunately, he couldn’t last for the entire Stanley Cup Finals due to a knee injury he sustained in the first game, ending his season.
Talking about that series, his former teammate said, "The fact that he's made a run like that before shows that he's a really good goaltender". Moulson added, "And it helps the Lightning that he's been there before."
Roloson is now part of a Lightning team that has emerged as a very strong contender for the Stanley Cup after a very thorough overall transformation.
He has played a very important role in guiding Tampa Bay Lightning into the Conference Finals, and as a result, he has marked his name in the history of NHL.
Lightning won eight straight games during the playoffs and Roloson became the first goalkeeper above the age of 40 to reach this feat.
He has recorded a total of nine wins in the ongoing playoffs and is also bagging his career best saves-percentage, 93.1%, and goals-against-average, 2.37.
Even though he gave away five goals in the second period of Game 2, with the level of commitment and form he has shown, he would surely bounce back to win more games for Lightning.
