Dwayne Smith confident of Mumbai making it to the IPL final – Cricket news
Hard hitting Mumbai Indian batsman Dwayne Smith was devastated to see his side losing the first Qualifier of the Indian Premier League to rampaging Chennai Super Kings; however, he was confident that the team will perform well in the next qualifier to earn
a ticket to the Sunday’s grand finale.
“It is unfortunate to end up on the losing side. I love to win,” said the Barbados top order batsman after Mumbai’s 48-run defeat at the hands of two-time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium, on Tuesday, May 21, 2013.
“We still have another chance. We have to regroup and comeback strong in the next game to get a chance to play in the final. We are still in the competition and our confidence will not drop,” added the Mumbai opener, who played a blistering half century
knock to provide his side a fantastic start.
After opting to bat first, the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Dhoni-c2028 led Super Kings rode on the belligerence of the Australian Mike Hussey and local Suresh Raina to post an intimidating total of 192 for 1 from their allotted quota of 20 overs. Opener Hussey returned unbeaten on 86,
smashing ten fours and two sixes during his 58-ball stay at the crease, whereas Suresh Raina smashed five sixes and an equal number of boundaries in his 82 not out, which came off just 42 balls.
After setting up an intimidating target of 193 for the Mumbai Indians, the Super Kings would have been relaxed and confident of winning the Qualifier quite convincingly.
However, Dwayne Smith hit the ball over the ground to leave the confident opposition baffled. The Barbadian hit 68 runs of just 28 balls to take Mumbai to 87 for 1 in the 9th over before being caught by Suresh Raina off http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ravindra-c84236 Jadeja’s bowling.
The rest of the Mumbai line-up failed to capitalise on the impressive start provided by the West Indian, as the whole batting line up was bowled out for just 144 in 18.4 overs. Smith believed the quick wicket of Dinesh Karthik and Rohit Sharma were the turning
points of the match.
“I think myself getting out and the two quick wickets of Dinesh Karthik and Rohit Sharma to fall later were the turning points of the game. There was a ray of hope when Kieron Pollard was going well, but wickets falling at regular intervals did not help
our cause,” added the Mumbai opener.
