Dwayne Wade, Dirk Nowitzki earn NBA Player of the Week
Another week has come and gone in the 2010-11 NBA season. With a new week come new nominees of the NBA Player of the Week (POW). Last week’s winner of the POW honour was Amar’e Stoudemire of the New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference. Russell Westbrook
of the Oklahoma City Thunders nabbed the POW honour in the Western Conference.
At the end of each week, a list of nominees is drawn up from which one player from each conference is given the league honour. This week's nominees included Atlanta Hawks’ Josh Smith, Chicago Bulls’ Derrick Rose, Houston Rockets’ Kevin Martin, Milwaukee
Bucks’ Andrew Bogut, Minnesota Timberwolves’ Kevin Love, Dallas Mavericks’ Dirk Nowitzki, Memphis Grizzlies’ Zach Randolph, Miami Heat’s Dwayne Wade, New York Knicks’ Amar’e Stoudemire and Raymond Felton, Oklahoma City Thunders’ Kevin Durant, and Portland
Trail Blazers’ Wesley Matthews.
The winner for the Eastern Conference is Heat’s Wade. Coming from a four game road trip last week, Wade led his team to a 4-0 mark extending Heat’s winning streak to a season high of eight games.
Wade averaged 30.8 points during the week with 8.3 rebounds and 5.5 assists. Heat’s star shooting guard shot a 58.4 percent from the field during the week. During Heat’s recent win against Sacramento Kings on Saturday, Wade scored 36 points with six rebounds
and assists each.
Winning the POW honour for the second time this season, the Western Conference winner was Maverick’s Nowitzki. Nowitzki first won the honour this season during the week of Nov 22nd to Nov 28th.
Nowitzki led the Mavericks to finish the week with a perfect 3-0 mark. Their latest win on Saturday extended their winning streak to a season high of twelve games.
Nowitzki registered an average of 25.7 points with 9.0 rebounds shooting 70 percent during the week. In Mavericks' recent win against Utah Jazz on Saturday, Nowitzki recorded a game best of 31 points with 15 boards and 4 assists. This was Nowitzki’s second
consecutive double-double and his eighth for the season.
