Dwayne Wade recovering well from surgery; Will return at the start of next NBA season
Dwyane Wade recently opened up about the surgery on his left knee, terming it successful and also revealed that he was right on schedule with his rehab plan.
Wade added that he is looking forward to being back with the Heat when they open the defence of their NBA championship next season. The star shooting guard was in London on Wednesday to make a promotional appearance at the NBA house for Gatorade, and talked to the Associated Press.
"I'm happy with it. I'm more encouraged than I was, obviously, when I knew I had to get surgery. So I'm happy,” said Wade.
Wade helped the Miami Heat win the 2012 NBA championship, playing throughout the playoffs with a knee injury that caused him pain and swelling frequently. After the playoffs, when it became apparent that he would require a surgery to fix the issue, Wade decided to opt out of the London Olympics to give himself time to recover for the next NBA season.
Wade had made it to the preliminary squad for the U.S men’s basketball team for the London Olympics, and was a favourite to make it to the final roster. He has already made two Olympic appearances for the U.S team in 2004 and 2008, winning bronze and gold with the team.
Wade has a busy summer scheduled, which will see him releasing a book on fatherhood on September 4th. He will be touring extensively after the launch of the book for its promotion.
At the same time, Wade plans on returning to intense training as he prepares himself for the next season. The Heat training camp will begin in late September and they will kick off their season on October 30th against the Boston Celtics.
Wade is unsure if he will be able to make it back for training camp but says he will definitely be back for the start of the new season.
"I should be. We'll see. We'll see how we approach it as an organization. But I should be able to go. It just depends on how much they feel like they want me to work. But I should be ready when the season starts,” said Wade when asked if he will be back for training camp.
