Dwayne Wade says LeBron James has a long way to go before being compared to Michael Jordan – NBA News
After a historically successful year for Miami Heat forward LeBron James, the debate of whether he is as great as the iconic Michael Jordan has picked up even more heat.
Jordan is universally accepted as the greatest basketball player to have embraced the game. And James is said to be on track to reach that level. So far though, many people accept that he is not in the same conversation and his
Miami Heat team mate Dwyane Wade agrees.
Wade was in his hometown of Chicago to promote his Wade’s World Foundation and talked with ESPNChicago.com. He said:
“I don't know if (James) has the ability to surpass (Jordan) or not. That's yet to be seen. I think everyone knows that (James) is a phenomenal, phenomenal player. He's one that we haven't seen, with the makeup of a 6-8 guy who
runs as fast as any point guard, jumps as high as any center, and has the ability that he has to do so many things. But Michael Jordan is the greatest player of all time, that's who everyone shoots for. So it's going to be hard to surpass that."
James is coming off one of the best years of his NBA career. He won his third regular season MVP title, then went on to win his first NBA title with the Miami Heat. That championship title officially put him in the same bracket
as many of the greats of the game, though he still has a long way to go if he wants to be remembered as one of the greatest to have ever played the game.
James was also the NBA Finals MVP, and then helped team USA clinch gold medal at the London Olympics earlier this month. He was by far the most important player on the team, helping them in different ways to progress in the competition.
Wade believes that James is now at the peak of his career and is just getting started as far as winning accolades was concerned. He is currently 27, and Jordan was also 27 when he won his first NBA title. The Bulls phenom went
on to win five more and Wade believes that James is on track to do that provided he stays healthy and remains hungry.
“He's now playing with that confidence, that swagger that you need, and he's right in the smack of his prime,” added Wade.
The shooting guard is looking forward to next season when Miami will defend their NBA title against a host of teams which have improved their roster in the offseason, with the Los Angeles Lakers topping the list. He feels that
if the team stays healthy, they have a chance of being a dynasty like the Bulls in the 1990’s.
