Dwayne de Rosario voted 2011 MLS Most Valuable Player – MLS News
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Dwayne-De-Rosario-c11765 had his fair share of highs and lows during the 2011 Major League Soccer season. But on November 18, the Canadian international was voted 2011 Volkswagen MLS Most Valuable Player with a whopping 29 percent of the votes.
Among other contenders were http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Brad-Davis-c7951. DeRo outscored both Shea and Davis with almost three times as many votes not only from the fans but MLS coaches, fellow league players and select-few media
personnel.
However, De Rosario valued the votes from his league fellows the most.
“It’s a mutual respect,” De Rosario said. “I’m a fan of and admire a lot of players in this league. To get that kind of respect from the players is a great feeling. That’s the greatest feeling one could ever receive, when fellow players identify your hard
work, dedication and commitment.”
Although the award toppled the best season performances DeRo has had in his MLS career with 16 goals and 12 assists, the run down the stretch was personally difficult for him.
After making public his discontentment with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Toronto-FC-c40744 last year, the player was traded off with New York Red Bulls in the start of 2011 season after playing just two games.
During his time at Red Bull Arena, the player failed to secure his ideal attacking position behind RBNY skipper ,http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Houston-Dynamo-c39542 and TFC.
“Different systems, different coaching philosophies, different players, different styles, different roles,” De Rosario said. “Your family’s relocating, schools, doctors, all that you gotta bear in mind. And you gotta do it overnight. And that’s not easy.”
However, that stretch did not pan out despite his play in defensive midfield. He scored two goals for Red Bulls in 13 matches before being dispatched to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Dax-McCarty-c10719.
The DCU roster provided the optimal conditions for the Canadian attacking midfielder to gain his momentum.
De Rosario is also a strong contender for the 2011 MLS Golden Boot unless Landon Donovan scores four goals in the MLS Cup final.
