Dwight Howard, Andrew Bynum and the Los Angeles Lakers – NBA Feature (Part-1)
Dwight David Howard is without doubt the most exceptional centre in the National Basketball Association. His contributions have single handedly led Orlando Magic to several victories over the years. In addition to that Howard is
the holder of numerous individual and franchise records in field goal made, free throws, rebounds and blocks.
Howard has truly proved his selection right since he was picked up as No. 1 overall from the 2004 NBA Draft by the Magic. Because of his ever increasing command over the game, Howard has done well in almost every aspect of the
game. This hasn’t just turned him into a complete package, but has also made him the most precious asset for the Magic.
However, this precious asset will be a free agent next summer and many big franchises are eyeing him already. They are ready to spend any amount of money to get this brilliant centre into their line-up.
One such strong contender to acquire Howard is Los Angeles Lakers and since May this year many trade rumours run rampant that L.A is in talks with the Magic to finalize a deal. The Lakers are looking to boost their squad by pairing
up Kobe Bryant with another megastar, who would help them in regaining the title once again.
As Bryant is losing youth fast and this is the right time for the Lakers to find someone, whom they can rely in the future as well. Howard, who is just 25 years old with a career scoring average of 18.2 points per game, still has
a long way to go and looks like the perfect candidate to fill in the Lakers roster.
So far the trade situations that have surfaced are mostly centred around the current centre of the Lakers, Andrew Bynum. As it is believed that Bynum is going to be the one that Los Angeles may give up to the Magic for Howard if
a deal takes place.
This trade between the two franchises involves Bynum because since LeBron James “Decision” managers across the league are now more concerned over their valuable players especially before such players’ contracts they are about to
enter the free agency market. So in order to avoid any unfortunate event the franchises now make use of the trade options in the contract.
Losing Howard without getting much in return is not an option for the Magic. As the franchise had already offered Howard a high-priced multi-year deal to keep him with them, but Howard hadn’t signed it so far. Therefore trade option
is the only practicable alternative left for the Magic and once the lockout settles Orlando will surely exercise their rights. Since, they will be looking to get as much as they can in exchange for Howard, before he becomes a free agent next summer.
