Dwight Howard, Andrew Bynum and the Los Angeles Lakers – NBA Feature (Part-6)
Who is more value for money?
After evaluating Dwight Howard and Andrew Bynum, it becomes clear that who holds more value for money.
Howard has dominated Bynum in almost every aspect of the game and in fact, he has completely outclassed him in few. Howard has truly proved his worth and because of his sheer hard work he has not just turned himself into a franchise
player, but he is also regarded as one of the very best in the business. It is only a matter of time, when the gets his hand on the Most Valuable Players award of the season and whether he goes to the Los Angeles Lakers or stay at Orlando Magic, he will get
his hand on the NBA World Championship.
Orlando Magic assistant Coach Brian Hill once said about Howard that, “He’s getting better in every phase of the game. Defensively, offensively, he’s improving. He’s really giving us something special.”
He has been that kind of player and in the next few seasons, he will be in his peak. He not only inspires his team on the court, many rival players have also been awed by the most prolific post scorer and rebounder, the NBA has
graced in the last few years.
All-Star Grant Hill, who has been one of the top point guard over the span of the last two decade once said “One day I’ll be telling my grandkids I played with Dwight Howard!”
However, at the same time, nothing can be taken away from the 23 year old centre of the Los Angeles Lakers. Bynum has been one of the most talented players on the circuit for the last few years and has a long career to evolve himself
into a dynamic player.
However, to do so he has to bring more inconsistency in the game and focus solely on the game. It is an open secret that Kobe Bryant is not on good terms with the burly centre and in 2007, he openly demanded his transfer from the
franchise. Jim Buss, the Lakers owner had opposed the move that time, but after Bynum again raised the trust issues, in between the Western Conference Semi-Finals against the Dallas Mavericks, there have been reports that the Lakers have had enough.
Lakers want Howard in L.A and they wouldn’t get much affected if they give away Bynum and some role players to Orlando Magic in return.
If they manage to do that, even without Phil Jackson, the Lakers will be able to mount a realistic challenge to the throne of Dallas Mavericks in the Western Conference and perhaps they might even go on and win the NBA Championship.
In contrast to the Lakers, Howard’s departure would be a setback for Orlando, as without him it would be hard for them to even qualify for the playoffs next season.
The difference between the two centres is clearly of the attitude, where Howard has the edge as he is not just aggressive in his approach, but also plays smart off the court. This makes Bynum just another skilful athlete of the
league, who has the ability to achieve new highs in his career.
