Dwight Howard awarded Eastern Conference Player of the Week title

Dwight Howard is one of the most prolific post scorers ever to step onto NBA courts. The mercurial centre who has carried Orlando Magic on his shoulders for the last five seasons knows no bounds to brilliance and resolve. And in this season, he is proving
to be a perpetual juggernaut.
Leading his team in the points scored, rebounds grabbed, steals snatched and the blocks made, Howard has been simply unstoppable this fall.
On Monday night, the five time All-Star starter added yet another feather to his cap when he was crowned the Eastern Conference Player of the Week for games played from Monday, February 21st through Sunday, February 27th. This honour marks the 16th time
Howard has earned the league's top weekly honour. In addition to that, Howard has clinched this feat for a record fifth time this season, surpassing LeBron James’ tally of four.
In the week under the spotlight, Howard led the Magic to a 2-1 outcome, canning an average of a league-high 30.3 points while scorching the oppositions with a 0.673 shooting from the field. In the last five games alone, Howard has shot at an average of 0.725,
crossing the 0.800 barrier three times during that period. To complement that, Howard also overcame his free throwing woes during that stretch with a conversion rate of 81 percent from the charity stripe.
Notching up a double-double every time he set foot on the court, the ‘Daily-Double’ paced the Eastern Conference with 14.0 rebounds and 3.3 blocks.
He started the weeks’ campaign with a 31-point, 17-rebound performance against the Sacramento Kings. His team however, failed to back up his heroics as the Magic went down 111-105 in an upset loss. The Orlando big man however responded with a 40 point blitz
in the very next encounter against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Pitched up against the likes of Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook, Howard showcased some superb defensive execution, grabbing 15 rebounds across the board, six blocks and two steals as the Magic routed the Thunder 111-88.
He then rounded off the week in style with a 20-point foray, wrapped with 10 boards, two blocks and two steals as the Magic breezed past the Charlotte Bobcats, 100-86.
Howard earned his second Player of the Week honour by prevailing over the likes of Miami Heats’ LeBron James and New York Knicks’ Carmelo Anthony.
